Recurrent pulmonary emboli with characteristic histopathology

We present a case of recurrent pulmonary emboli with characteristic histopathology. A 78-year-old patient who developed exertional dyspnea was evaluated at this hospital. Thrombi were detected in the pulmonary artery using contrast-enhanced computed tomography and a diagnosis of pulmonary embolism was made (Fig. 1A). Symptoms were ameliorated by anticoagulation therapy and the size of the thrombus decreased (Fig. 1B). Blood tests did not reveal any coagulation disorders or malignancies.
