Dysregulation of hippocampal and frontocortical JNK signaling in alcohol dependence

Alcohol dependence is a chronic, relapsing psychiatric disorder characterized by the emergence of negative emotional states and the development of significant pain hypersensitivity (or hyperalgesia) during withdrawal. Accordingly, alcohol may be sought after and taken in excessive amounts to alleviate withdrawal-related symptoms. To develop more effective therapeutic treatments for dependence it is necessary to identify potential molecular targets that underlie the transition to excessive drinking.
