Putative periodontal pathogens in the subgingival plaque of Sudanese subjects with aggressive periodontitis

The term aggressive periodontitis (AgP) was introduced by the International Workshop for the Classification of Periodontal Diseases and Conditions (Armitage, 1999). It is a relatively uncommon condition where there is rapid loss of periodontal tissue including alveolar bone, and can present in localised or generalised forms. The disease tends to occur in adolescents or young adults who do not display the classically defined periodontal risk factors, and there is usually a familial tendency suggesting a certain genetic susceptibility to the disease.
