Research and improvement of ECG compression algorithm based on EZW

The typical ECG is made up of P, QRS and T wavebands, as shown in Fig. 1. When real-time electrocardiogram(ECG) monitor systems can extract and detect cardiac signals in real time, large amounts of data is required to store and send [1]. In order to reduce the bit rate, the ECG data need to be compressed efficiently. In the past several years, many different signal compression techniques have been designed for the ECG signal, so as to overcome wireless transmission and storage problems [2]. The current ECG compression algorithms can be divided into two groups: direct and transform schemes [3].
