Exercise in ones 60s – more on my #OTheoryFitness obsession

Regular readers know that I am currently an exercise addict.  Once one becomes eligible for Medicare, thoughts turn to maintaining quality of life and health (if we are fortunate enough to have good health). I play golf regularly, mostly with guys my age.  The great majority of my friends have an exercise regimen with the following goals: Maintain leg strength Improve balance Avoid falling Some level of aerobic activity Our fear is falling and breaking a hip (or worse hitting our heads).  So this great group of guys are all taking different paths towards maintaining their best achievable fitness. I have turned to Orange Theory Fitness, because even at my age, I can still run.  This ability leaves many peers through a variety of injuries they have accumulated over the years.  But even if I could not run, I would consider OTF because I could power walk or bike or stride for my aerobic fitness.  While I love the running and results from the running, I believe the strength work is more important.  In the weight room we work on leg strength (a variety of different leg exercises), core strength as well as upper body strength. Leg strength seems critical as we get older.  We see some people in their 80s who remain spry and active, and others that can barely get around.  Sometimes diseases causes these problems, but often the problem is underuse and too much time on the couch. Walking or running help, but doing some work on strengthening those leg muscles really matters. I...
