Immunohistochemical study of CD44 and CD24 as cancer stem cell markers and their prognostic role in invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast
Conclusion: CD44 expression was significantly higher in grade III and triple-negative tumors, indicating poor prognosis. CD24 expression was decreased in grade III and triple-negative tumors. CD44+/CD24− phenotype was higher among grade III and triple-negative tumors. Thus, CD44/CD24 status can be useful for identifying subgroups of breast cancer patients with different clinical behavior.
