British Society of Rheumatology Prizes - Congratulations!

Michael Mason PrizeWe would like to say congratulations to Dr Francesca Barone (University of Birmingham) for being awarded theMichael Mason Prize by the British Society of Rheumatology. This prize is awarded by the Herberden Committee for excellence in clinical or scientific research in the field of rheumatology.Dr Francesca Barone holds anArthritis Research UK senior research fellowship. She is working to improve understanding of Sjögren’s syndrome, by looking at tertiary lymphoid organs that reside in the salivary glands. As well as answering why these structures are present, and whether removal of these structures makes disease better, the research will also look at how they lead to the development of lymphoma.Garrod PrizeA second congratulations to Dr Helen Wright, a career development fellowship holder from the University of Liverpool, who has been awarded the prestigiousGarrod prize. This prize is open to scientists with a non-clinical background who are working in rheumatology or a related discipline.The award is named after Sir Alfred Baring Garrod, who was responsible for recognising the difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and for initiating the thread test for uric acid in the blood.Young Investigator AwardA final congratulations to Mr Paul Martin, based at theArthritis Research UK Centre for Genetics and Genomics, for winning one of twoYoung Investigator Awardsawarded by the British Society of Rheumatology.
