RNA isolation from alveolar bone and gene expression analysis of RANK, RANKL and OPG: a new tool to monitor bone remodeling and healing in different bone substitutes used for prosthetic rehabilitation

Bone undergoes continuous remodeling, both in physiological and in pathological conditions. Bone remodeling can lead to bone atrophy or progressive bone loss as a consequence of, for example, periodontal disease or maxillo - mandibular traumas; congenital malformations and bone tumors resection in the maxillo-facial area can result as well in bone deficiencies that prompt for bone augmentation, regeneration or reconstruction, in order to carry out adequate patients rehabilitation (Dellavia et al., 2016).
