Why ‘Alternative’ teenagers self-harm: exploring the link between non-suicidal self-injury, attempted suicide and adolescent identity

Around half (45.5%) of ‘Alternative’* teenagers self-injure and nearly 1 in 5 (17.2%) attempt suicide, according to research by scientists at the MRC/CSO SPHSU, University of Glasgow and researchers from the University of Ulm, Germany.
