Hypertension affects approximately one billion individuals worldwide. It is estimated to be responsible for 7.1 million premature deaths and 4.5% of disease burden. Moreover, overestimating or underestimating blood pressure (BP) by even as little as 5 mmHg can result in over 20 million persons appearing to have normal blood pressure rather than hypertension [1].
