A new survival status prediction system for severe trauma patients based on a multiple classifier system

Traumatic injuries are defined as those kinds of damage to the body that are produced by energy exchanges [1] like car crashes and falls among others. Trauma is a major public health issue worldwide, since it is one of the leading causes of death and disability and it also has high medical and social costs [2,3], involving direct and indirect costs like health care, social care and loss of productivity. More specifically, for people under thirty-five, injury is the leading cause of death. According to the World Health Organization, traffic accidents will go from being the ninth-largest single cause of global deaths (irrespective of age) in 2004 to the fifth-largest single cause in 2030.
