Asymptomatic children of schizophrenia patients have decreases in cortical surface area

It is well‐known that schizophrenia and bipolar disorder have genetic factors. A new study has found that children of parents with schizophrenia had decreases in cortical surface area, associated with prodromal symptoms, researchers have found. Children of parents with bipolar disorder did not have decreases in surface area. There were no differences in cortical thickness.
