Sudden cardiac death and sarcoidosis of the heart in a young patient

Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disease of unknown aetiology affecting any organ, microscopically characterized by non caseating granulomata [1 –4]. Cardiac involvement in sarcoidosis was reported in 2–5% of patients with systemic sarcoidosis but both autopsy studies and modern cardiac imaging suggest that clinically manifest cases may represent just the tip of the iceberg in cardiac sarcoidosis [5]. It might be asymptomatic or manifest as dyspnoea, unexplained fatigue, arrhythmias, and sudden death.
