Mediterranean diet –gene interactions: A targeted metabolomics study in Greek‐Cypriot women

ConclusionSerum levels of flavin mononucleotide and 5‐MTHF were shown to be influenced by interactions between GSTM1 deletion or MTHFR (rs1801133) polymorphisms and a dietary pattern, characteristic of MD. The effect of the interactions between polymorphisms and Mediterranean diet adherence on the levels of specific metabolites is studied. The levels of the metabolites are measured in the serum of 564 Greek‐Cypriot breast cancer controls. Significant interactions between GSTM1 (where GST is glutathione S‐transferase) deletion or MTHFR (rs1801133) polymorphisms and Mediterranean diet are shown to affect levels of flavin mononucleotide and 5‐methyltetrahydrofolate, respectively.
