DBT Skills for OCD: An Alternative Treatment

  OCD is usually treated with Exposure-Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. However, ERP is not effective for everyone and some simply will not try it, can't afford it or don't have access to it. For those, another type of CBT might be helpful. Dialectical Behavior Therapy, also know as DBT, teaches many of the skills that are used in conjunction with ERP and other therapies for anxiety and mood disorders. DBT focuses on mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and emotional regulation. DBT is offered in a group for skills training, in addition to weekly individual therapy sessions.
