The Funding for the NCD

The public health assault on global chronic diseases has been nearly nonexistent for the 45 years since Omran's definition of the epidemiological transition [1]. Because of the soft-money infrastructure of most schools of public health coupled with the lack of external funding from philanthropy, the usual donor countries, and international agencies, faculty development and commitment have been squelched. Without a means of supporting a faculty committed to chronic diseases, there is little if any curricular support.
