Women's experience of being interviewed about abuse: a qualitative systematic review

DiscussionTo maximize the therapeutic impact of discussing abuse, women must maintain autonomy and feel they are in a safe and confidential environment. Within this supportive atmosphere, very few women report any regret after discussing abuse and are able to identify positive outcomes.Implications for practiceFindings from this review support the need for mental health nurses and other clinicians to create an optimal environment for discussing abuse and offer relevant practice recommendations. Researchers are encouraged to include women in studies that involve asking about abuse experiences.
