Utility of the hand-held continuous wave Doppler in the vascular examination: A review

A hand-held Doppler is a bedside tool for vascular clinicians that provides valuable information about arterial stiffness and arterial stenosis and is an adjunct to the history and physical examination. Arterial stiffness is an important factor in the pathophysiology of arterial disease, but it is also a marker for cardiovascular diseases. Increased arterial stiffness occurs in the elderly and in patients who have atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.1
