Research article review: Clinical comparison of automatic, noninvasive measurements of blood pressure in the forearm and upper arm

Obtaining a noninvasive blood pressure (BP) measurement is one of the first skills taught to nursing students. The brachial artery in the upper arm is the standard location for a blood pressure measurement.1 The American Heart Association has published recommendations for subject preparation, cuff size selection, and patient positioning to obtain the most accurate blood pressure.1 A noninvasive blood pressure is typically taken by two methods: auscultatory (via a stethoscope) or oscillometric (automatic using a machine).
