Stmc-04. the utility of x0-glioma stem cell lines in understanding of gliomagenesis

We have established glioma stem cell lines from patients, named X0-series, representing cancer stem cell features, including self-renewal, multipotential differentiation, and recapitulation, both in vitro and in vivo, and even in long-term cultures (A Inagaki et al. BBRC 2007, N Oka et al. BBRC 2007). We have been providing these cell lines to researchers on request, with material transfer agreement, and they have been studied around the world (4 institutions in Japan, 8 in USA, and 5 in Korea). These researchers have independently investigated their original ideas and published their own results, without sharing authorship with us, acknowledging us for providing the cells. By their excellent efforts, fifteen articles have been published; eight are from our laboratory. In these publications, we have indicated that EGF-EGFR-Akt pathway and hypoxia play an important role in glioma stem cell maintenance (A Soeda et al. J Biol Chem. 2008, A Soeda et al. Oncogene 2009), and showed the evidence of glioblastoma heterogeneity (A Soeda et al. Sci Rep. 2015). Q Xie et al. suggested that HGF autocrine loop activated MET signal pathway in glioblastomagenesis (PNAS 2012). J Yin et al. reported the relationship between pigment epithelium-derived factor, EGFRvIII, and glioma stem cell progression (PLOS Biol 2015), whereas X Jin et al. reported that EGFR-Akt-Smad pathway promoted tumorigenesis via ID3 (Cancer Res 2011). Furthermore, other res...
