Quantification of radiologic identification (RADid) and the development of a population frequency data repository

Publication date: Available online 5 November 2016 Source:Journal of Forensic Radiology and Imaging Author(s): Angi M. Christensen, Gary M. Hatch The implementation of quantitative methods bolsters radiologic identification conclusions by providing statistical support for the probability of a correct (or incorrect) identification. Quantitative methods, however, require the use of population frequency data for the specific radiographic traits used in the comparison, and such data are currently absent for many features or difficult to access for others. Here we review quantification as applied to RADid and its impact on evidentiary value, highlight the critical gaps in the current scientific literature, and introduce the creation of a publicly-available repository of population frequency data to assist practitioners in locating and implementing quantitative radiologic data in identification comparisons.
