Immunization against lysozyme-like proteins affect sperm function and fertility in the rat

Spermatozoa produced in the testes are immature and they undergo maturation in the epididymis. In the testicular and epididymal mileu, a variety of proteins aid the maturation and acquisition of fertilizing ability. Identification of their specific functional role using different approaches such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc. have been investigated for last three decades. This led to the identification of many markers linked to male fertility (Dacheux et al., 2016).
