What Are the Most Common Domains of the Core Competencies of Disaster Nursing? A Scoping Review

A disaster can be defined as significant damage to property and people ’s lives caused by an event that overwhelms the local community’s human resources (Veenema, 2012). Both natural and manmade disasters have significant effects on the health and the physical, emotional and psychological states of community members (Powers and Daily, 2010). To control the possible negative effects of a disaster, a disaster management strategy must be implemented. The four main stages of providing proper disaster management are mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery (Coppola, 2011).
