Efficacy of transcranial magnetic stimulation for treatment resistant depression among active duty service members

Depression is not uncommon among military personnel with an estimated prevalence of one in eight deployed service members meeting the diagnostic criteria [1]. Previously published studies also suggest that active duty service members may prefer complementary and alternative approaches over standard pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, particularly when those interventions have produced less than optimum results [2 –6].
