Opening remarks at the Regional Committee for the Americas, Sixty-eighth session

26 September 2016 – In her address, Dr Margaret Chan praised countries for their response to the Zika outbreak, including their contribution to scientific understanding of the virus, its modes of transmission, and its association with microcephaly and other neurological abnormalities. She reviewed the Region’s pr ogress over the past decade, focusing on progress towards universal health coverage and the elimination of targeted infectious diseases.
