Patellar Dislocation: Not the Bees Knees

Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioners (RANP) working in Irish Emergency Departments (ED) are increasingly central to the management of injuries that do not threaten life or limb. RANP ’s engage in complex decision making and practice at a standard of clinical proficiency which enables them to manage complex injuries in the ED (Appendix 1). For certain injuries RANP’s must be cognisant that there is an increased risk of future instability and chronicity (Wang et al., 2015) and therefore the initial management of these injuries must be optimised to mitigate the risk.
