Gastrointestinal Procedures: Colon Surgery

Dr. Kerry Hammond, assistant professor of surgery at the Digestive Disease Center at MUSC, discusses colon surgery and provides common examples of why a patient may need to undergo such a procedure. She explains the advantages of a minimally invasive procedure versus open surgery, and how patient recovery times can very on an individual basis. Dr. Hammond also describes a procedure referred to as a colostomy, and concludes this podcast by explaining the importance of patient education prior to having colon surgery.
