Advanced Practice Nursing in Pediatric Heart Failure- Therapeutics and Models of Care
Since the 1960s, the role of nurse practitioners has expanded significantly to include subspecialty management of patients with acute and chronic illness. The scope of practice for nurse practitioners has been outlined by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Nurse practitioners are licensed, independent providers who assess, diagnose, treat, and manage both acute and chronic illnesses [1]. The nurse practitioner can order, conduct, supervise, and interpret diagnostic testing and prescribe therapies including medications.
