Ivar Asbj ørn Følling – człowiek, który odkrył fenyloketonurię

Publication date: Available online 26 July 2016 Source:Pediatria Polska Author(s): Dariusz Walkowiak The present paper focuses on the person of distinguished scientist, the discoverer of phenylketonuria, Ivar Asbjørn Fölling. His life was presented, from his childhood on a provincial farm to the main research conducted by Fölling and finally the awards and orders received. The researcher was positioned in the wider context of changes taking place in Norway after the recovery of the country's full sovereignty in 1905. Besides the most important achievement, which was undoubtedly the discovery of phenylketonuria in 1934, other research projects in which Fölling participated were also described, such as physical efficiency research, which also went down in the history of medicine. The paper also includes little-known facts from the life of the scholar, such as his support given to the hero of the anti-Nazi movement Ole Jacob Malm. In answer to the question, sometimes asked, why the first article of phenylketonuria was written in German, an own hypothesis has been presented.
