The beginning of this discipline in world dates back to 40s of the twentieth century, when the first doctors training started in the field of heart disease in children. In Silesia, the first attempts to develop this branch of medicine were taken in the 80s of the twentieth century. The Department of Pediatric Cardiology in Zabrze is one of the resulting centers for diagnosis and treatment of children with heart disease, and it was founded by Dr. Lili Goldstein. Despite the difficult beginnings of Zabrze center, its development continues to this day. The constantly expanding catalog of diagnostic and interventional procedures makes The Clinic of Pediatric Cardiology one of the most highly regarded centers in Poland and Europe. Cooperation with the centers of a similar profile in Europe and the world for many years results in a number of scientific achievements, which are implemented into clinical practice. In 2016, Department of Pediatric Cardiology in Zabrze celebrates 30th anniversary of its existence.
