Running faster thanks to @OTheoryFitness

3 years ago I started running as part of my weight loss program.  Like many, running became addictive.  Running makes me feel much better and healthier.  As part of my running, I decided to compete in the occasional 5k (not interested in running longer distances). I have a “big audacious goal” to run a 5k in less than 25 minutes.  I have run a bit less than 27 minutes, but for 2 years I have felt stagnant. When you read running magazines, you get several consistent tips, especially for older runners.  One big problem we have as we age is stride length, and the other is strides per minute.  As I read these articles, these solutions dominate: hill running (to improve stride length), sprinting and resistance training. Enter Orange Theory.  I started doing OTF last September.  My personal schedule made regular visits difficult until March and April.  Since May I have averaged 4-5 sessions per week. OTF provides workouts that clearly help running form and speed.  On strength days we do a variety of inclines on the treadmill.  3 months ago I had to consistently walk through inclines.  Over these 3 months I now can run – even at 7% yesterday.  This strength training has clearly improved my running form and stride length. On power days I run faster each week.  Running at a faster speed during push and all outs seems to happen naturally as a result of regular pushes and all outs. Likewise my base pace has increased.
