NC3Rs CRACK IT Challenge 2016 in osteoarthritis research

Arthritis Research UK are partnering with the NC3Rs to co-sponsor one of this year’s NC3Rs CRACK IT Challenges, a research competition to solve scientific and business problems identified by the bioscience sector.The challenges are designed to reduce the reliance on animal models and/or improve animal welfare and lead to the development of marketable products.This year’s challengeThis year's challenge isOsteo-chip: An in vitro model to recapitulate the human osteoarthritic joint.The aim is to provide a device based on a human tissue or a multiple human cell type co-culture system for research and drug development in osteoarthritis.This two-phase challenge offers up to£1 million funding (co-funding provided by EPSRC) and a research contract for up to three years.
