The role of adiponectin in obesity-associated female-specific carcinogenesis

Worldwide, obesity has been designated a serious health problem for women and is associated with a variety of metabolic disorders, including an increased risk of developing cancer. The Million Women Study emphasized the association between body mass index (BMI) and a number of cancers among women aged 50 –64 [1]. According to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), the prevalence of obesity is higher among low income and less educated women, and in women living in developing countries where the cancer screening rate is lower.
