Interleukin 15: A key cytokine for immunotherapy
Interleukin (IL)-15 is a γc cytokine, produced by various cells in the body [1]. It is a multifunctional cytokine that targets many cell types and connects the innate with the adaptive immune system [1]. It is a member of the 4-α-helical bundle family of cytokines, with 14–15kDa molecular weight and 114 amino acids [2]. Its widespread expression and the ability to influence both immune and non-immune systems of the vertebrates warrants tight regulation [3]. It critically modulates the host defense against intracellular pathogens [3].
