OC05_02 Cost of Hospitalization for Cardiovascular Diseases in India: Are We Pro-Poor?

Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) account for 63% of the annual global deaths. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the largest cause of mortality and accounted for more than one-fourth of all deaths in India in 2008. Households spend a substantial share of their income on health care leading to catastrophic expenditure and impoverishment. However there is little information on the impact of healthcare expenditure on households due to CVDs.
