OC06_01 Association of Nutrients With Blood Lipids in 19 Countries and 5 Continents: The Pure Study

For decades, blood total cholesterol (TC) was assumed to be a robust surrogate marker to predict CVD. A reduction in saturated fats with a concomitant increase in carbohydrates has been proposed to reduce TC level and presumably CVD, but this has recently been challenged and there are no data from low and middle income countries where > 80% of CVD occurs.
