PS013 Nutritional Labelling and Heart Check Food Certification Programme in Africa: An Overview

The 57th World Health Assembly (WHA) addressed two main risk factors for non-communicable diseases namely; Diet and Physical activity. Globally, Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) deaths are projected to increase by 15% between 2010 and 2020 (to 44 million deaths) and particular concern is the high level of premature mortality from NCDs (deaths before 70 years of age) in several low- and middle-income countries. Poor dietary habits increase the risk of various chronic diseases and premature death.
