PS018 Task-Shifting of Handheld Echocardiographic Screening for Rheumatic Heart Disease: Longitudinal Performance of Non-Experts in a School-Based Program

Task-shifting of echocardiography (echo) performance and interpretation to non-experts using handheld echo (HHE) offers the best hope for widespread adoption of echo screening for RHD in endemic countries. We have previously reported that non-experts can conduct RHD screening with good sensitivity (83% using criteria that includes mitral regurgitation (MR) ≥1.5cm/44% using criteria that includes MR ≥2.0cm) and specificity (85% – 94%) following a brief, standardized, computer-based training course.
