Coronary artery disease (CAD) is an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory disease. The interleukin 27 (IL-27) has a dual role in immune response with both pro- and anti-inflammatory properties. Some studies suggest that IL-27 is involved in CAD, however, no previous studies have examined the association of IL-27 gene polymorphisms (IL27p28) with premature CAD.
