Sequence Generation and Allocation Concealment

Faggion1 states that “a method that prevents previous knowledge on the sequence of treatments should be used, such as a list of treatment sequence generated by computer”. This is a baffling statement that may sound good at first, and may go along with equally misguided conventional wisdom, but in point of fact the propagation of this misconception represents a major threat to the integrity of trial quality in general, including in dental studies. The “method” referred to here is sequence generation which, if one is content to use the amply discredited,2–4 Jadad score, as Faggion1 is, might be classified rather bluntly in a dichotomous fashion, as generated by computer or not generated by computer.
