In addition to medication and cognitive behavioral therapy, many people with OCD find it helpful to utilize other self-help skills and techniques to help manage their symptoms. Mindfulness is a type of meditation that trains the brain to stay in the present moment by focusing on the tastes, physical sensations, smells, sounds and sights involved. Staying in the present also requires that we allow extraneous thoughts and sensations to pass by without attaching to them, and release thoughts and emotions when we realize the mind has grabbed onto them.
