Foreword

One of the most vexing clinical conditions confronting the primary care physician is the patient with persistent pain-especially in older adults with co-existing conditions. September is Pain Awareness Month, as established by the American Chronic Pain Association since 2001, to help raise awareness of these diverse ailments. To this end, this month’s topic is devoted to a variety of subjects dealing with chronic pain conditions, including a comprehensive discussion on older therapies (such as narcotic use) along with newer modalities (such as cannabis and botulinum toxin).
