Interprofessional education and practice: What might you consider?

Although not a new concept, interprofessional education (IPE) is fast gaining credence as a collaborative undertaking essential to a comprehensive, cohesive health care system. IPE as defined by World Health Organization (2010) “occurs when two or more professions learn with, about, and from each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes” (p.7). “Professional is an all-encompassing term that includes individuals with the knowledge and/or skills to contribute to the physical, mental and social well being of a community” (p.12).
