Mechanical ventilation in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: Unresolved dilemma
We read carefully the article by Barret Rush et al. [1], on using mechanical ventilation (MV) in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and congratulate the authors on their study. There are, however, some limitations to the study that need considering. First, studies based on administrative databases may involve a larger population but data re-evaluation and validation is more complicated than when compared to studies based on clinical data that involve a smaller group of patients but with more controlled data [2].
