WHO Director-General launches diabetes report

In her speech commemorating World Health Day, Dr Margaret Chan drew attention to the staggering recent increase in diabetes prevalence and what this means for health in every region of the world. As she noted, diabetes was long considered a disease of the rich but now has its highest burden among the poor. She highlighted a number of facts and statistics set out in WHO’s first-ever global report on the diabetes situation.
