Publication date: Available online 14 March 2016 Source:Journal of the American College of Clinical Wound Specialists Author(s): Ali Memis, Mesut Mutluoglu, Sinan Öztürk, Kemal Kara, Hakan Ay Diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) is a common complication of the diabetic foot (Gibbons, 1987) and the majority of minor and major amputations are preceded by DFO (Mutluoglu et al., 2013). The diagnosis and treatment of DFO are both challenging. Early recognition and comprehensive management of diabetic foot infections may obviate DFO, hence the dreadful consequence-resection of the infected bone. Herein, we present the successful management of a patient presenting with DFO and severe abscess formation of the heel.
