Researchers propose new way to return sequence results to research participants

Sequencing the human genome and exome (the protein coding genes in the genome) are powerful tools that sometimes generate information beyond what the biomedical researchers originally sought. In a new study published in the March 3 American Journal of Human Genetics, researchers, including NHGRI's Les Biesecker, M.D., are now proposing a standard way for returning to research participants sequence results that might be critical for their health.
