Publication date: Available online 5 March 2016 Source:Journal of Taibah University for Science Author(s): G.S. Hikku, R. Krishna sharma, R.V. William, P. Thiruramanathan The metal oxide semiconductor gas sensor technology is robust and has quick response times. In this work, aluminium and tin co-doped zinc oxide (ASZO) thin film was synthesized by sol-gel dip coating process to sense greenhouse gas; nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The prepared ASZO thin film was characterized using techniques like X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Atomic force microscope (AFM), Photoluminescence emission studies (PL) etc., to analyze the elemental confirmation, particle size, surface roughness and optical emission property respectively. The XRD data reveals about the hexagonal structure of ASZO and the preferential orientation is along 2θ=36.19°. SEM image of the ASZO thin film shows rod-like formation of ASZO on the substrate. The sensing behavior of ASZO film shows better performance, sensing NO2 gas even at 2ppm with an operating temperature of 170°C. The response time and recovery time were measured as 30 and 20seconds respectively.
