CMS to Delete Procedure-to-Procedure Edit for 77295/77300

In response to a request from the American College of Radiology (ACR), American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) will correct the procedure-to-procedure edit for column one CPT code 77295 (3-dimensional radiotherapy plan, including dose-volume Histograms) and column two CPT code 77300 (Basic radiation dosimetry calculation, central axis depth dose calculation, TDF, NSD, gap calculation, off axis factor, tissue inhomogeneity factors, calculation of nonionizing radiation surface and depth dose, as required during course of treatment, only when prescribed by the treating physician) that became effective Jan. 1.  The NCCI medical director, Niles Rosen, announced in a March 1 letter to the ACR and ASTRO that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will delete this edit in the July 1, 2016 version of NCCI, retroactive to Jan. 1, the implementation date of the edit.  The ACR is in the process of appealing additional 2016 edits it feels are inappropriate and will keep members posted.  Please notify Rynzelle Spraggs at rspraggs@acr.org when you identify any incorrect NCCI edits.
