Retention is greatest challenge, finds poll

Just under 60 per cent of respondents to an online survey cited attracting and retaining people to medicine as the number one issue for the health service. Of 778 responses, 446 voters (57 per cent) picked recruitment and retention as the top challenge. The NHS is experiencing recruitment and retention problems, particularly in general practice and many junior doctors have cited the contracts dispute as a reason for considering moving abroad. Other challenges facing the NHS in 2016, according to the poll findings, include: Contract disputes — 27 per cent (212 votes) 7 day services — 12.5 per cent (98 votes) Three per cent of respondents (12 responses) answered ‘don’t know’ to the question ‘what do you think is the biggest challenge facing the NHS in 2016?’. The 'have your say' survey on the BMA homepage is open to the public. This current survey is live until Monday. The topic of the poll is changed each fortnight.
